53 TVET Principals Transferred, Ordered to Comply Or Face Action
The cabinet secretary of education prof George Magoha has ordered the 53 TVET principals who were transferred from their stations to new destinations to comply with the government directive or face action.
Prof Magoha gave out the order while addressing the media after the Monday the 21 September Education stakeholders meeting held at the Kenya institute of curriculum development in Nairobi.
“My plea is gentle for now, but the government does not plead all the time,” Magoha cautioned.
“If you have been transferred to another government institution, kindly handover to the person that has come and move on unless you’re been told otherwise,” ordered the Education CS.
Why Are Certain TVET Principals Reluctant to Transfer?
Prof Magoha questioned why certain TVET Principals were reluctant to transfer.

“If you refuse to move, it means there is something you’re doing there that you do not want the government to know,” commented the CS.
According to Magoha, his technical team had transferred certain heads of technical institutions in a move geared to re-engineer the TVET sub-sector in the country.
President Uhuru Wanted Transformation in the TVET Sector
This, he said, was in line with what President Uhuru Kenyatta wanted so as to transform the Technical and Vocational education sector.
“You are not employed as a bonafide head of the institution, you are transferred to work there for a period”, said Magoha.
The CS praised the Nyeri National Polytechnic for its standards and termed it a benchmark for all the other polytechnics in the country.
“There are certain national polytechnics whose names I will not mention here, or where they are situated… which are not or should not be considered to be Polytechnics”, Magoha said in disappointment.
In his address, Magoha said that they had identified transformative leaders to give the dilapidated polytechnics new life.
In addition to reporting to the new work stations, the CS ordered the principals to revamp the institutions.
“ those national polytechnics that look like pig’s sty, must be brought very quickly within six months, to look like what his excellency the president wants”.
Most of the Principals were transferred following poor resource management, and lack of innovativeness, among others.
Others were transferred to give new life to the poor performing technical institutions having potential for growth but with negligible development record attributed to poor leadership.
