Tension remains high in Bungoma County following a violent rampage by students from Chesamisi Boys High School on Sunday night. The unrest was reportedly sparked by a bitter 2-1 defeat to St. Peters Nakalira High School during the ongoing zonal school games.
The highly contested match, hosted at the Kamusinde Boys High School grounds, ended in frustration for the Chesamisi team. Matters quickly escalated when the hosting Kamusinde students allegedly joined Nakalira in celebrating the victory, angering the Chesamisi camp.
Night Attack on Kamusinde Boys
According to eyewitness accounts and local reports, the aggrieved Chesamisi students mobilized a retaliatory attack against Kamusinde Boys under the cover of darkness. Panic gripped the hosting school as distress messages rapidly circulated online.
“Chesamisi Boys have decided to launch an attack on us this night. We are under attack,” read a desperate alert posted on the official Kamusinde Boys High School social media page late Sunday.
The nighttime invasion left a trail of chaos, forcing the administration and local authorities to intervene to restore calm. Following the ugly scenes, the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) indefinitely suspended all remaining games scheduled at the Kamusinde grounds.
Farmer Suffers Massive Losses
The wrath of the striking students did not stop at the school gates. A neighboring farmer is currently counting heavy losses after the rampaging youths invaded his sugarcane plantation adjacent to the school.
Reports indicate that acres of mature sugarcane were mercilessly slashed and trampled during the Sunday night chaos. The devastated farmer has called upon local authorities and the Ministry of Education to investigate the matter and ensure he is compensated.
Local stakeholders have strongly condemned the violence, urging students to embrace sportsmanship. “He who does not accept defeat is not a winner. Seeking to injure people over a game is unacceptable,” one local commentator urged on social media, reminding the schools of a previously signed peace accord.

Toloso High School Also on Strike
In a separate but equally concerning incident within the region, students from Toloso High School have also gone on strike.
The unrest at Toloso was reportedly triggered by serious allegations of financial mismanagement. The rioting students accused the school principal of failing to account for Sh5 million meant for school development and student welfare.
Security authorities and education officials are yet to issue a comprehensive official statement regarding both incidents, as they scramble to contain the growing wave of school unrest in the region.
