CS Magoha Loosens Stand on NEMIS, Goes Manual Counting

The Ministry of Education under Prof George Magoha has loosened the stand on the use of NEMIS data and reverted to the use of Physical data from the County Directors of Education for 2020 Capitation.

The Ministry of Education does not have up to date accurate data about student enrollment and the exact number of Schools according to Prof George Magoha’s Circular sent to the County Directors of Education.

National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) has been in use for the last three years since its inception by Dr. Fred Matiangi (Former Education Cabinet Secretary).

The Directors will further prove to the Ministry on the Existing Primary and Secondary Schools.

Prof Magoha said on the 10th of December Circular, “This information is required for 2020 capitation and other critical decisions”.

In his directive, the CS needs accurate data about learners in Primary Schools from Grade Two to Class Eight.

Prof Magoha insists that without the new data, no school shall be funded or get any service from the Ministry.

The Cabinet Secretary cautioned the CDE’s that they will be held responsible for the data they provide.

Magoha Contradicts Himself on Use of NEMIS for 2020 Government Capitation

It is just a few days since the the Education CS strongly requested the heads of schools to update the enrollment of learners in their schools.

While addressing the Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association KEPSHA delegates in Mombasa, Prof Magoha directed the teachers to update their NEMIS records.

The CS’s directive goes against his promise of using the NEMIS data as of 30 November, for 2020 Capitation.
